How to Study efficiently for competitive exams

Taking an entrance exam has now become a must for most of the fields of study, be it management, PhD, Medical or engineering. Important government jobs also require you to take competitive exams with lakhs of candidates. Students study for 8 to 10 hours a day but still fail to learn effectively and remember what they have studied. So here are some useful and scientific tips that would help you to study effectively.

  1. Ivan Pavlov’s experiment: Russian physiologost Ivan Pavlov conducted an experiment where he found out that his dog salivated as soon as he heard the bell ring, as the dog associated the sound of the bell with his eating time. The logic here is- if you study a particular subject at a particular time everyday, your brain would be conditioned to prepare itself to study that particular subject. No matter if you like or dislike the subject, this trick does wonders.

 

  1. A routine and a studying strategy: Take a pen and paper, make a time table and follow it religiously. Also create a strategt according to the syllabus and the time period you have for preparation. An organized plan would make a huge difference in your learning.

 

  1. Work Smart: Studying for long hours does not always result in effective learning. You have to work smart. Making flow charts, diagrams and mnemonics to better remember the topics you have studied also makes revisions easier. Study during the early hours of the day, as that is when your brain is at its best.

 

  1. Read the Text: Don’t skip topics from the books and read it thoroughly. You can make concise notes, but reading the books well would give you concept clarity and help you to write answers to even the uncommon questions.

 

  1. Take small breaks: After every hours or two, take breaks of 15 to 20 minutes. Meditate, watch some lighthearted content or just sit with your eyes closed. You will feel rejuvenated for the next study session.

 

Minimize distractions, drink a lot of water and believe in yourself. If other people can crack competitive exams, so can you?
